In order to be in compliance with New York City fire codes, a premises must have a "Certificate of Fitness" issued by a licensed fire suppression piping company like Modern Sprinkler Corporation. This document certifies that the system has been inspected and tested and is in good working order.
For jurisdictions outside of New York City, New York State requires that systems be maintained in accordance with NFPA #25, 2001 edition.
ECB (Environmental Control Board) and FDNY (New York City Fire Department) inspections are scheduled annually but may be performed at any time the Fire Department believes that a premises is in violation. For safety sake, it's important that your fire protection system is always in compliance with the law.
