The Environmental Control Board's Notice of Violation and Hearing is a three part form issued at the end of a fire inspection if one or more of the city's administrative codes or Fire Department rules have been found to be in violation. Inspections are scheduled annually, but may be performed at any time should the Fire Department have reason to believe that a premises is in violation.

The NYC rule numbers that Modern Sprinkler can help remedy are:
   Rule #5 Produce Permit and/or Record - This rule pertains to sprinkler system inspection by a certified fire protection company. Modern Sprinkler performs monthly visual, NFPA25 and semi-annual residential standpipe inspections. Inspections must be performed on site by our inspectors. This rule coincides with Rule #17 below.
Rule #6 Signs/Postings/Instructions - Sprinkler systems, standpipes and compactors must have proper signage for identification and instructional purposes. Modern Sprinkler can identify and provide the necessary signage.
Rule #8 Obstructions/Accumulations - Fire sprinklers must have 18 inches of space between the sprinkler head and any obstruction. Nothing may be blocking the area around any sprinkler control valve or valve room. Modern sprinkler can identify obstructions which are in violation of local codes.
Rule #12 Maintenance of Sprinkler, Standpipe, Alarm, Suppression Systems - This rule covers a broad range of maintenance issues, the most common being:
  • Repair or replace water motor alarm or related equipment
  • Survey for proper fire sprinkler code coverage
  • Provide spare sprinkler heads and/or wrench for emergency use
  • Service and/or paint standpipe siamese connection caps
  • Replace painted, corroded or old sprinkler heads. Sprinkler heads may not activate if painted or covered.
  • Replace gauges on automatic sprinkler systems 5 years or older
  • Seal open sprinkler control valves with locks, chains or approved wired seals
Rule #17 Certificates of Fitness - A Cerificate of Fitness certifies that the person who inspected the sprinkler system is in fact qualified to inspect that system. This rule coincides with Rule #5 above.
Rule #20 Test/Inspection - Certain fire sprinkler components must be tested at required intervals. These include:
  • 5 year sprinkler and standpipe test
  • 10 year dry valve trip test
  • 30 month residential building test
  • Annual dry pipe valve inspection testing and maintenance fro insurance purposes
Rule #22 Tanks/Supports - Modern Sprinkler can identify violations and provide referrals to reputable companies for remedy.
